I had to quit my Job

After I reluctantly retired in November 2006 due to medical problems, I reached an all time low. I dealt with not just medical issues but emotional also. After 10 years of going from one doctor to another trying to find out what is wrong with me, Only to hear the same things over and over. I was told the Pain in my body is from 1:Depression 2: The Depression is related to losing My Daughter April, whom at the age of 18 was killed in a 14 car pile-up on I-4 in Hillsborough County January 30, 2000, she was the only death out of 14 cars.
3 years ago I was diagnosed with Fibromyalgia and Chronic Fatigue Syndrome, but I had to take my health into my own hands which wasn't the first time I have become my own physician.  Read more

Are you using Fentanyl Transdermal Patch?

Are you using Fentanyl Transdermal Patch?

I started using the Fentanyl Patch about 2 years ago for chronic fibromyalgia pain. When I first started them I read the common side effects on the paper the Pharmacy put in the bag. About six months ago when I went to pick up my prescription, The Pharmacist alerted me to the fact that I should never use a heating pad, electric blanket or use a heated water bed, due to the fact that it will cause the fentanyl medicine to absorb to fast into my blood stream and could cause a overdose or death. Thank God I had never done any of those things.

When I first started using the patches I thought it was a answer to Prayer, a miracle because the patch helped my pain so much. You would have thought I was a representative for a pharmaceutical company, I told everybody about them and how much they relieved my pain. OK so by now your probably wondering why I am telling you all this. About 3 months ago I started having problems urinating, I sometimes sat on the toilet for 15 minutes before I could start urinating. I started having to put my hand under cold running water so I could start. I also had another side effect that really irritated me, my legs would jerk and with no warning. I couldn't take the side effects anymore so I called my Doctor, asked her if the patches could be causing these side effects? I have other medications that I am taking but the Doctor told me it was most likely the patches. So I was gradually weened off them and I started peeing right away with no hesitation and My legs have stopped jerking.

What is a a Fentanyl patch?

Fentanyl Patch contains a high concentration of a potent Schedule II opioid substances which include fentanyl, hydromorphone, methadone, morphine, oxycodone, and oxymorphone. It is a strong prescription pain medication for moderate to severe chronic pain that can provide long-lasting relief from persistent pain. The patch delivers the medication, into the body slowly through the skin, where it works to relieve pain for up to 3 days (72 hours).

It is so important to stay up to date with the latest side effects of any medications your taking.
